How to Use a Vacuum Cleaner

Hi. This is Javris on behalf of Expert Vantage, talking to you about vacuuming.

What I wanted to go over with you is how many times do you actually go over a spot until it is clean. Well, a lot of people, if you'll notice (maybe even yourself included), when you do vacuum, you give it the quick once-over. And that's really not the way to do things if you want it to be done correctly. What it's going to do...actually, if you're going to be vacuuming, you might as well do it right.

So, you are spending the time to do it, do it right and your carpet is going to last longer which is going to be beneficial to you because you are not going to have to spend money on new carpet. Most people are going to do the once over; they are going to go down and back. Or, they may even go two times. So, down-back one, down-back two. However, the efficient number (and this has been done by studies) is that it takes eight times...down-and-back one, down and back two...eight times to be sure that that carpet is getting clean. There is a lot of dust build up, maybe you wear your shoes through your house, and all of that stuff over the months and the years adds up. Especially high traffic areas. You are going to want to make sure that you hit those especially the eight times and maybe a little bit more. So let me just show you what that looks like so you can get an idea. Okay? Here we go. That's one...down-back, two...down-back and that's eight. Raise the head.

So, you can see that it does look like a lot of work. That's why I recommended in the previous clip that you get a machine that has a self propelled feature so that you are not doing all of that work. It can become laborious. If that's how you want to get your exercise, put it on the manual setting and go around the whole house and make sure that you hit the spots that you are doing effectively eight times and that will make sure that you get more life out of your carpet..
